Accompanying Schubert's Der Lindenbaum

Abstract: Every solo pianist is likely to be asked occasionally to accompany a singer. Accompaniment is an art, for which good advice is readily available. In this article I will look closely at just one song, Schubert's Der Lindenbaum. Even by Schubert's standards, this song is remarkable for the eloquence of its piano part, an eloquence which has not, however, been fully discussed in print to my knowledge.
