Born on 20 May 1937 in Emmen, Anne Lamfers studied at the Tilburg Academy of Art, graduating in 1980. He taught arts and crafts until August 1989, after which he established himself as an artist in Stadskanaal. His work was initially primarily figurative, but from the 1970s became increasingly abstract. Reality is stylised and sometimes reduced to nearly geometric shapes and surfaces, but the original form usually remains intact. His work contains Cubist and Expressionist characteristics. Anne is mainly inspired by the landscape and the human journey of life. His work is characterised by contradictions: Light and Dark as symbolic elements that represent happiness and disaster. Music is also a great source of inspiration, with his Winterreise and Meng Jiao cycles closely related to the composers.
